Biography

Tianxu An is from Beijing, China. He is currently under the tutelage of Mr. Meng-chieh Liu at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While growing up, Tianxu has won numerous prizes in competitions around his country. In 2010 he won the Grand Prize at the third “Helen Cup” Shanghai International Piano Competition. In 2011 he received the silver prize at “Lotto Cup” CCTV Piano and Violin Competition (Youth Group); the Zhou Guangren Young Pianist Award. In 2012 he won the second prize at the Third National Youth Piano Competition of Beijing Concert Hall and the Thomas and Evon Cooper International Youth Piano Competition (China Trials); the second prize in the 7th Beijing International Piano Festival Young Artists Concerto Competition. He has also been the prize winner of several international competitions, including the second prize at the IV. Wiesbaden International Piano Competition in Germany, an honorable mention from the EDR International Young Artist Piano Concerto Competition in Chicago, andthird prize from the Concerto Competition ‘Theodor Leschetizky’ for Gifted Young Pianists. Tianxu has attended the 7th Beijing International Piano Festival, Philadelphia Young Pianists’Academy, the Purple Crown international piano Festival and the Sejong International Music Festival. He has participated in master classes with Robert McDonald, Sergei Babayan, Klause Baessler, Anthony Hewitt, Maxim Mogilevsky and Andrea Bonatta. Tianxu began his piano lessons at age five and has studied with Hua Chang at the middle school of Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
