Biography

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Su Hyun Kim studied at the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts while also attending Sun-Hwa Arts High School in Seoul. Su Hyun received her Bachelor’s Degree from Korea National University of Arts, one of the top South Korean music institutes, with scholarship studying under Professor Chong Pil Lim. She graduated in 2015 with a Masters of Music in Piano Performance and Literature at Eastman School of Music, where she received a scholarship to study. Su Hyun is currently working as a teaching assistant at Southern Methodist University while pursuing her Piano Performance Diploma on full ride scholarship with Prof. Carol Leone. Su Hyun won numerous competitions including 1st prize at the Berlin-Seoul International Competition. she was invited to play in the winner concert at Carnegie Hall after winning 1st prize in the American Protégé International Piano Competition. She won 2nd prize at the Music Teacher’s National Association in New York in 2013 and 2nd prize in the Franz Liszt competition in 2011. She was a finalist in the Chautauqua Piano Competition in New York in 2015. In addition to these accomplishments, she was also awarded several prizes in numerous competitions including the Busan MBC Competition, Eum-Yeon Competition, Eum-Ak Chun-chu competition, and Nan-Pa Competition in South Korea, among others. Ms. Kim was invited to play at the 2010 Euro-Music Festival in Leipzig, Germany. She performed and participated at the Art of the Piano in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2014, and at the Chautauqua music festival in New York in 2015. Su has participated in masterclasses taught by world-renowned pianists including Alexander Gavrylyuk, Arie Vardi, Yoheved Kaplinsky, John Oconer, and John Kimura Parker. Su Hyun won the 2016 Southern Methodist University Piano Concerto competition. She performed on February with the Meadows Symphony Orchestra under conductor Paul Philips, representing her debut in the United States.
