Biography
Korean-American pianist Sherry Kim started piano at the age of five in Honolulu, Hawaii before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada where she continued her studies at the Nevada Arts Academy. Recently having graduated with a Master of Music, she is currently working on a Professional Studies certificate at the Manhattan School of Music studying with Alexandre Moutouzkine. Previously, she has graduated from Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music with a Bachelor of Music under the tutelage of Alan Chow.
Among an impressive list of prizes Sherry has received in numerous competitions, she is the winner of the Dora Zaslavsky-Koch Concerto Competition at Manhattan School of Music and also the winner of the Jefferson Symphony International Young Artist Competition, where she had the opportunity to perform with both MSM Symphony and the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, she was named the second prize winner of the VI Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, CT. Sherry has been invited to perform in a number of prestigious venues including Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Liederkranz Hall in New York City, the Chicago Cultural Center among others.
In addition to her primary teachers, Sherry has had the opportunity to work with a number of the world’s most renowned pedagogues including Yoheved Kaplinsky, Richard Goode, Jerome Lowenthal, Nelita True, Paul Schenly, and John Perry among others. She has also appeared in concerts and master classes at various festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival and School, Banff Centre Piano Master Class, and Pianofest in the Hamptons.
Besides performing, Sherry is the founder and director of Las Vegas Master Class Series, a uniquely designed master class series inviting not only world-renowned artists but also emerging professionals teaching a master class for the first time in hopes to inspire and accelerate the educational and musical growth of pre-college students in the Las Vegas community. Sherry’s greatest passion lies within reaching the next generation of musicians, whether as a performer, teacher, or an entrepreneur.
