Biography

Born in Los Baños, Philippines, nineteen-year-old pianist Matthew Calderon started playing the piano at age six and was a national government scholar at the Philippine High School for the Arts at age 13. He has garnered awards and accolades in competitions including the 2016 LYNN Concerto Competition, 2016 FSMTA Gray Perry Young Collegiate Competition Award (first prize), the Byrd Piano Ensemble Award (first prize), and the 2015 MTNA-Florida State Competition (Senior Piano Category, first prize). In 2012, he became the sole winner of the Mozart International Piano Competition in Thailand. Matthew made his debut as a classical pianist at age 16 in the Young Artist Series of the Manila Chamber Orchestra Foundation and has appeared as soloist with the Manila Symphony Orchestra, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Lynn Philharmonia. Matthew studied at the Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival in Tampa, Florida in the summer of 2016. He has performed in master classes of Stephen Hough, Boris Slutsky, Stanislav Ioudenitch, Yong Hi Moon, Rebecca Penneys, Christopher Harding, Agustin Anievas, James Giles among others. Matthew currently studies with Dr. Roberta Rust at the Lynn University Conservatory of Music in Boca Raton, Florida.
