Biography
Maryann Gou is completing her MMus in Piano Performance with Garrick Ohlsson at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Born in 2000, she began piano studies at age 8 in Sydney Australia, learning from her mother, a pupil of Dan Zhaoyi. Maryann later commenced lessons with Neta Anne Maughan AM.
As a soloist, Maryann has performed in masterclass with Yuja Wang, Tamara Anna-Cislowska, Andrey Gugnin, Alexander Kobrin, and Stephen Hough. As a chamber musician, she is coached by Yoshikazu Nagai and members of the Telegraph Quartet, and has performed in masterclass with the Miró Quartet, Salastina Duo, and Emanuel Ax. Highlights include performances while on tour in Europe, as well as Carnegie Hall. She has performed in the Sydney Town Hall, City Recital Hall, Zenith Theatre, Independent Theatre, and Australian Digital Concert Hall.
In 2011, Maryann played Mendelssohn’s 1st concerto in the ABC Young Performers’ Awards, and has since performed with orchestra, concerti by Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky, and has won over 150 prizes across Australia. In 2015, she won the Margaret Chalmers Scholarship. In 2016, she performed the Butterfly Lovers’ Concerto, and in 2017, she performed the first movement of Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos. In 2022, she won both the BlueScope WIN Baroque, and Bond & Davies Piano Scholarship.
In 2022, Maryann was admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of NSW, and solicitor in NSW. During her spare time, she enjoys reading and writing poetry, and has had her poems selected to be published in two anthologies.
