Biography

Marie Wurtz is currently pursuing undergraduate piano studies with James Giles at Northwestern University and previously studied with Inesa Sinkevych at the Manhattan School of Music Precollege. She was named a 2022 Finalist by the National YoungArts Foundation. Marie participated in the Bowdoin International Music Festival in the studio of Peter Serkin in 2018. She has also attended Philadelphia Young Pianists’ Academy and the Manhattan in the Mountains festival. In 2022 and 2023, she attended Aspen Music Festival, studying with Arie Vardi and Anton Nel. She will be returning this year to Aspen, studying with Yoheved Kaplinsky and Hung-Kuan Chen. Marie has performed in Bowdoin College’s Studzinski Hall, Harris Hall at the Aspen Music Festival, Merkin Hall in New York, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the Manhattan School of Music, and many other halls. In 2021, she received 1st prize in the Philadelphia International Piano Competition and 2nd prize in the Spotlight International Piano Competition. Marie has taken part in masterclasses with the Dover Quartet, Gary Graffman, Alexander Korsantia, and Shai Wosner, as well as lessons with Maria João Pires.
