Biography
William Chen began studying the piano at age five and gave his debut solo recital at eight. Since then, he has played for renowned teachers including Arie Vardi, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Wha Kyung Byun, Dang Thai Son, Alexander Korsantia, and Richard Goode. He has also won gold prizes and special awards in the Bosendorfer and Yamaha Competition, Kaufman Youth International Piano Competition, New York Music Competition, New Jersey statewide Music Teachers National Association Competition, NEC Preparatory Concerto Competition, and the Oberlin Conservatory Senior Concerto Competition. In his 2019 solo recital in Merkin Hall, Kaufman Music Center, William moved the New York Concert Review with his “tonal beauty and mature phrasing… leaving the audience with bated breath until the very last note”. He also has played at Holywell Music Hall in Oxford, Organ Hall in Moldova, Jordan Hall in Boston, and Harris Concert Hall in Aspen, and soloed with the Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra, the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra, the 92Y School of Music Symphony, Park Avenue Symphony, Sound Symphony Orchestra, and the Midwest Young Artists Symphony as a Lang Lang Foundation Young Scholar. Now, he studies with Stanislav Ioudenitch in his fourth year at Oberlin Conservatory.
